Contoh Kalimat Past Continuous Tense dan Artinya

Past continuous tense digunakan untuk menyatakan suatu kejadian/aksi sedang berlangsung selama waktu tertentu pada waktu lampau (past). Ciri kalimat ini diikuti oleh was/were + verb-ing. Contoh dalam sehari-hari semisal :

A : kamu tadi malam ngapain?

B : Aku sedang mengerjakan pr ku tadi malam

Jika diterjemahkan dalam bahasa inggris : I was doing my homework last night. Nah, seperti itulah contoh kalimat yang menggunakan past continuous tense yang sering kita jumpai dalam percakapan.

Positive : Subjek + to be (was/were) + verb (-ing) + O

Negative : Subjek + to be (was/were) + not + verb (-ing) + O 

Interrogative : to be (was/were) + subjek + verb (-ing) + ?

W/H Question : W/H Question + to be (was/were) + subjek + verb (-ing) + ?

Penggunaan past continuous tense untuk menunjukkan bahwa kejadian pada masa lampau diinterupsi / disela :

Penggunaan pasti con tense yang menggunakan keterangan waktu spesifik dimasa lampau.

Last night at 6 PM, I was playing Mobile Legends.

At midnight, they were roasting corn.

Past continuous tense juga dapat digunakan untuk menyatakan kejadian-kejadian pada masa lalu. yang terjadi pada waktu yang bersamaan.

He broke his leg while he was playing football.

Catatan : Pada past continuous tense, sering digunakan while atau when.Yang perlu diperhatikan adalah When biasanya diikuti oleh kata kerja Verb2 dan while diikuti oleh kalimat past continuous tense.
